INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE OF THIS BLOG

WHO?

Robert Butcher here.

WHAT I DO

I am the program leader for High School English at the International School Manila a rugby coach, and dabbler in all kinds of writing from screenplays, to novels, to educational materials typically to do with the teaching of IB A Literature or A Language and Literature.  I also examine for the IB and lead workshops for them.

PURPOSE OF THIS BLOG

The purpose of this blog is for me to keep up with educational technology.  Quite frankly, the world of technology is evolving so fast it is difficult to keep up with it, and as an educator it difficult to evaluate what new innovations are useful and should be incorporated into my teaching.  The purpose of this blog is to explore new technological developments as part of evaluating whether to make or not to make them part of my teaching practice and whether I should require my students to use and apply this technology in their work for my classes and whether or not I would encourage my colleagues to do the same.

FUN FOR ME (AND MAYBE YOU) IN THE PHILIPPINES

I live in the Philippines, but don't have a favorite place to visit so much as an activity which is scuba diving.  There are gazillion places to go diving in the Philippines.  The fastest and most convenient and reasonably priced get away from Manila for diving is at Arthur's resort in Anilao.  I might include more information about Arthur's here at a later date.

  1. Robert, I haven't dived since we lived in Honduras (kids got in the way!), but now I'm ready to get back into it. I will have to talk to you more about it sometime. Hopefully you will find some web tools that you'd like to use either yourself or with students! Thanks for joining the program.

  2. "A Butcher Blog" Nice name for your site. Love the colors too. I can't believe I still haven't done my dive certification yet. Guess it will have to wait until the next locale. Hope you're having fun with the course.

  3. I used to teach Philippine lit before, and I think it would be interesting to see how literature teachers could integrate tech in their classrooms. Anilao sounds like a good place to go this summer then. Thanks for the idea!
